An oldie but goodie has been afforded a new lease on life thanks to iTunes. No Nations No Peoples was released in 2002 and snapped up by a record label that went under. The subsequent digi-release floundered as well. But not to be discouraged, ALP has made No Nations available on iTunes. Here’s what one review had to say:
“Solid and substantial, musically just so varied, and yet so darned catchy, it’s an electronic ambient downtempo brew that will have your feet tapping and your body swaying as track after incredible track fills the airwaves, each one full of the most wondrous array of melodies layers and textures that you could hope to hear – a simply astounding album that is so refreshing and vital it should be prescribed to anyone feeling down or alone. Fantastic and then some.”

A presumably used copy of my debut cd, Sperm Warfare, is on sale at Ebay for 99 p. Even with the exchange rate this is a bargain. The UK seller writes:
Back in the late 80, early 90’s record shop and label The Empty Quater [sic] was the home of all things Industrial, Noise, Electronic – this release TEQM95 014 from 1995 – Arthur Loves Plastic was the labels first forray into Electronica/ Dance and to be honest still sound as fresh now as it did then. This is a very hard to obtain release featuring seven tracks
IMHO it is worth it just for the femme tadpole cover!
One of the more prolific collaborations I have been involved with is with the Tapegerm Collective, a group of artists who use each others loops for mixes. I usually feature at least a few tapegerm tracks on each release and in turn my loops have appeared on other members’ tracks. Here is the ALP tapegerm page where I post new mixes before they appear on CDs. You can listen to tapegerm mixes below:
Back in the early nineties I was mesmerized at first listen by a French darkwave band called Trisomie 21. However, since this was during those dark days before the internet, I was unable to find their records anywhere.
Much to my surprise I recently received an e-mail from the band’s management announcing the release of a new album and asking if I was interested in doing a remix. I ended up doing a few of them, and the remix CD is out now. More info here. I’ll be spinning one of the remixes at this week’s Girl Friday at Black Cat in DC.
