This year marks 25 years since I started recording as Arthur Loves Plastic in a Wheaton, MD basement just down the street from the legendary Chuck Levin’s Washington Music Center. To mark the occasion I have released a retrospective of early work. I typically use Reaper as a DAW but Abelton Live Lite was the perfect fit for this project. You know that feeling when you see something amazing and you have no one to share it with and you feel kind of sad? Yeah, happens to me maybe once every few years.
I love the electric maid in Takoma DC! It is a very comfortable community space with plump sofas and folding chairs. Gigs are a quiet listening introverts paradise! Here is some video from this weekend’s show.
I started this CD during snowzilla on a windows XP laptop that I keep off the internet. Thus no distractions! And fewer plugins to impede my workflow. Sometimes there is more freedom via limitations. I used Lisa’s vocals from previous releases such as Strings. Nice agita retrospective!
My next gig is Saturday May 14th 2016 at Electric Maid in Takoma Park, 268 Carroll St. It is a comfortable community space conveniently located across from the metro. I will be sharing a bill with Dave Vosh and other members of the Baltimore Electronic Music SDIY Group.
I will be debuting a new piece entitled “obliquity of the ecliptic” which uses clanking samples from my co-op building’s water heater before it was replaced.
I am also thrilled to be performing again at Queering Sound on June 4. This will be a farewell show at Pyramid Atlantic, the awesome print-making facility and art space that is relocating to Hyattesville this summer.
Here is the Queering Sound lineup:

On September 10 I will be doing a set at the Electronica Fest at the National Electronics Museum near BWI airport. The museum features a fascinating display of military technology. I will also be doing a workshop on droid apps.
I am trying a new setup for this one! Although my metrosexual camping table works great for DJ gigs where I have time for assembly, I needed a setup I could put together and take down quickly for festival gigs that provide little time between performers. And I developed a bit of a fetish for red keyboards last summer! Below is my audio mulch setup that just requires 2 USB cables. Hope to see you on the 10th!
